documentation on mentoring and its efficiency

The following information exists online on Children and Youth Mentoring. Some deals explicitely with result evaluation of children and youth mentoring.

In an electronic bookstore you can read the short description of two basic books on mentoring :

1."Stand by Me: The Risks and Rewards of Mentoring Today's Youth (The Family and Public Policy)" by Jean E. Rhodes. (March 2002)

2. "A critical view of Youth Mentoring (New Directions for Youth Developments #93) by Jean E. Rhodes (April 2002)

The American Association of all mentoring organisations "National Mentoring Partnership" publishes regularly on its website a list of most recent research on mentoring, many of the papers being freely available on-line.

"Public Private Ventures (PPV)" is an American research organisation which over the last 15 years has carried out many evaluation and analytic studies of youth mentoring programs. Most of the reports can be downloaded from their website

"The Value of Youth Mentoring Programs" published on February 21, 1999 by the National Governor's Association (NGA) of the United States as an online report under Section "NGA Online Reports"

"Mentoring makes a difference", a research report of 1998 published by the Commonwealth Fund, USA

"Big Impact" ,description of a book written in 1997 and published by Richard Greif, New Hat publishing company, USA.

"Growing Places" (1995) and "The Diversity of Mentoring" (1992) are two reports of the Search Institute, USA. The second also lists important literature.

"Mentoring" (1993) is a report of the U.S. Office of Education Research in its Cosumer Guide series.

For those responsible for local mentoring organisations useful advice is given by the American National Mentoring Partnership.

A general but important publication dealing with volonteering in a larger context is the OECD publication: The Well-being of Nations (the role of human and social capital) OECD, Paris 2001.
